Ronald “TT” George, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. He was born January 29, 1935 in Iron Mountain, MI, the son of the late Tarrence Thomas (also known as TT) George and Sophie (Baraga) George. A lifelong resident of the area, he graduated from Iron River High School in 1953. He lived and worked in Iron Mountain for a while and later returned to Iron River, where he began working at a gas station. In 1958 he became manager of the station for the next 17 years. In October 1959, married the former Gloria Hammar and they had two children, Sandra and David. In 1975 he joined the Stambaugh Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief from 1976 to 1978, and continued being a volunteer fireman for several more years. He began working for Stambaugh City in 1975 and remained there until his retirement in February 1997. After retirement he worked three summers at the Stambaugh Cemetery and during the fall of 1999 began working at Sunset Manor doing maintenance work taking care of the building and its grounds until 2014. Whenever someone was in need of help, he would be there to offer his assistance. His personality was of a humorous nature, and he loved to joke around. He was also very good at looking at the positive nature of things versa focusing on the bad, thus his positive attitude. He loved old cars and motorcycles and enjoyed going to car shows. His favorite treasure was the King Midget which he acquired in 2008, the same King Midget he once helped a man haul off the train in 1959. He also loved to tinker in the garage on all sorts of projects. He was a very supportive husband and wonderful father to his kids, and was always there for them even as adults, He was also involved and there for his grandchildren as well. He was preceded in death by his father, Tarrence Thomas “TT” George on July 14, 1962, and mother, Sophie (Baraga) George on August 31, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, David George of Iron River; daughter, Sandra (Daniel) Thoney of Iron River; brother, Terry (Helen) George of Fridley, MN; sisters, Della (Jerry) Steffen of Milwaukee, WI, and Elaine (George) Stellar of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren Lisa (Don) Quest of Macomb, MI, Melissa Samuelson of Chicago, IL, Dustyn and Nikolas Thoney of Iron River. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate.
