Nancy F. Roberg

Nancy Frances (Lundwall) Roberg, age 101 of Iron River, MI, died Sunday March 7, 2010 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI.
Born: October 12, 1908 in Iron Mountain, MI
The daughter of the late Oscar and Teckla (Ekquist) Lundwall lived in Stambaugh as a child, moving to Michigamme, MI with her family, where she graduated from high school in 1926. In 1928 she attended the Michigan School for the Deaf and Blind to become a certified teacher for the deaf. Nancy taught at the school in Flint, MI for five years and then for the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, MI for eight years. She later worked for Borg-Warner Corporation in Detroit as personnel director. She then taught school in Stambaugh for two years and then worked for the Iron County Department of Social Services until her retirement in 1973.
Nancy married Rhinehart Roberg of Roberg's Bakery in Stambaugh in 1951 and the couple celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1976. Rhinehart preceded her in death in 1979.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, former president of LCW at the church and active on the building committee for the educational wing at church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Lloyd, Ray, Ward, and Kenneth; and sisters Hazel Lundwall, Doris DeVowe, Janet Curtis, Margaret Wiggins, Alice Dishaw and Violet Chiolak
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Mary Ann (Roberg) Reed of Las Vegas, NV; stepsons Rhinehart Roberg of Azuza, CA and Jim Juneau of Amasa; brother, Marlin Lundwall of Bergland, MI; sister-in-law Joyce Davies of Stambaugh, MI; granddaughter Terri Klymshyn, two great grandchildren, Lauren and John Klymshyn of Valencia, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday March 10, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Iron River.
Funeral Service: Wednesday March 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen, pastor, to officiate.
Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River

Adris M. Melchiori

Adris M. Melchiori, age 80 of Iron River, MI, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI.
She was born November 13, 1929 in Bates Township, MI.
The daughter of the late Otto and Edna (Kellstrom) Trybom attended the area schools, graduating from Iron River High School.
Adris married Albert Melchiori on May 5, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They were lifelong residents of the area and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last year.
She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, member of the choir, and the Mariam and Sunset Circles. She was the Regional Director of T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for the Upper Peninsula for several years. Adris was a dedicated mother, liked to travel, take pontoon rides, water ski, golf, play cards and work crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Albert

Don (Sandy) Melchiori of Iron River
Brian (Carol) Melchiori of Lake Elmo, MN
One sister, Emily Sitkoski of Iron River
Six grandchildren
Two great grandchildren
Nieces , nephews, and extended family
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Iver and Glen Trybom and one sister, Lorraine Meyer.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River, with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate.
Pallbearers will be: David, Melchiori, Andrew Melchiori, Steve Meyer, Jeff Sitkoski, Paul Trybom, and Mike Stafford, and Honorary Pallbearer Eric Melchiori.
Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.

Simon E. Maki

Simon E. Maki, age 94 of Iron River, MI, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Northstar Health System, Iron River.
Born: September 1, 1915 in Iron River, MI
The son of the late Simon and Amanda (Talvitie) Maki attended the Iron River schools. He was in the CC Camps and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Simon married the former Elsie Hautala on January 1, 1943 in Barberton, OH, and the couple made their home in Iron River. Elsie preceded him in death. He was employed as a miner by M.A. Hanna Mining Company, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Iron River and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and dancing.
He is survived by his son, Bruce (Jean) Maki of Iron River
Daughter, Donna (Chris) Sayre of Iron River
Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren
He was also preceded in death by his son, Wade.
Visitation: Monday, March 1, 2010 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
Funeral Services: Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River with Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the funeral.
Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River

Virginia E. Bigari
February 21, 2010
Virginia E. Bigari, age 85 of Caspian, MI, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 21. 2010 at the Iron River Care Center.
She was born on August 19, 1924 in Caspian, MI and was a lifelong resident of Iron County.
The daughter of the late Marsilio and Lena (Koski) Basanese attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1942. On January 23, 1943, she married Alfred Bigari at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, where the couple made their home. Alfred preceded her in death on December 5, 1989 after 46 years of marriage. Virginia retired from the West Iron County School System where she had worked as a teacher's aide.
Virginia was active in St. Cecilia Church including the St. Ann's Society, Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Right to Life, Rosary Sodality, Daughters of Isabella, Minister of the Eucharist and Cup, and for many, many years as a CCD teacher.
She is survived by three sons; Alfred (Carol) Bigari of Venice, FL
Richard (Darlene) Bigari of Iron River
Bruce (Maureen) Bigari of Genesee, WI
Brother, Parnell (Arnoldine) Basanese of Watersmeet, MI
Sister-in-law, Eleanor Basanese of San Jose, CA Eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren
Many nieces and nephews
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Will, John, and Louis Basanese, a great-grandson, Nicholas Fenbert, and two infant siblings.
Visitation will be at Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of St. Ann's Society and the Rosary Sodality will form an honor guard at the funeral.
Interment will be at the Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.
